Buffalo Bisons News Release
TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons look to snap their three-game losing streak with the third game of a four-game set against the Norfolk Tides from Harbor Park (7:15 p.m.). Last night, the Bisons rallied late with three-runs in the 8th inning, but the comeback fell short in a 6-4 loss. Looking to put his team back in the win column, lefty Jeremy Sowers will get the start tonight. Sowers allowed just an unearned run in six innings to defeat Richmond on Friday. The Tides' will counter with righty Jeremi Gonzalez, who allowed five runs on seven hits in 5.1 innings on Friday in a loss to Durham.

PITCHER'S LEAGUE: The hurlers have owned the International League so far in 2006. Though the Bisons have hit just .255 as a team, that's actually the third highest team average in the IL. The league as a whole is hitting just .230 (574-2,498). Also, teams have combined to score only 6.4 runs per game over the league's first 40 contests (12 shutouts).
STRONG START: With six solid innings last Friday, pitcher Jeremy Sowers showed his fantastic first year in professional baseball wasn't a fluke. Sowers was the Indians' 2005 Minor League Pitcher of the Year, leading the system in wins (14) and strikeouts (149). With his victory already this season, he is now 15-4 with a 2.28ERA in 28 professional starts.
DIFFERENT DESIGNATIONS: Manager Torey Lovullo has used six different players at designated hitter over the first six games of the year. Last night, Ryan Garko filled the role by going 1-4 with a double, RBI and a run scored. So far this year, Bison DHs have hit .210 (4-19) with a pair of RBI.
ALWAYS ON: By picking up back-to-back doubles in the 8th inning last night, Ryan Garko (1-4) and Andy Marte (2-4) both continued their on-base streak. Each has reached safely in all six games so far this year. Marte is tied for the league-high six walks to give him a .538 on-base percentage (4th in IL), while Garko has posted a .346 on-base mark.
HOMER DROUGHT: The Bisons have just two home runs this year and none since Franklin Gutierrez led off the second game of the season with a blast (April 7 at Richmond). The stretch has lasted 43 innings, 165 at-bats and 191 plate appearances. Last season, the Bisons finished 2nd in the International League with 179 home runs.
