
Bulls hold off Braves

RICHMOND, VA - The Durham Bulls beat the Richmond Braves 3-1 at The Diamond Wednesday night. The Bulls earned their sixth win in seven games, led by the six-inning no-run pitching of Edwin Jackson.
The Bulls broke a scoreless tie in the fifth inning. John Raburn chased a run home with a single to put the Bulls ahead to stay. Fernando Cortez came in to score on a ground ball to make it 2-0. B.J. Upton knocked in a run with a single in the seventh to extend the Bulls lead to 3-0. Richmond scored in the home half on a Carlos Mendez double. The Braves brought the tying run up in the eighth and ninth innings but failed to score.
Jackson earned the win. Justin Miller collected the save. Wes Obermueller took the loss. Brayan Pena had three hits for Richmond. Raburn and Kevin Cash had two hits each for Durham.
The Braves and Bulls conclude the series Thursday at The Diamond at 2 PM. Travis Smith takes the mound for the Braves against Tim Corcoran.
