TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Indianapolis Indians in the third game of a four-game series from Dunn Tire Park (7:05 p.m.). The Herd looks to take a lead in the series after a decisive 8-1 win yesterday afternoon. On the hill for the Bisons will be LHP Jason Stanford. The southpaw threw a season-high eight innings last Wednesday in a no-decision at Ottawa. The Indianapolis Indians will counter with LHP Shane Youman.
SEVEN-YEAR STANNY: LHP Jason Stanford is the only player in the Modern Era to appear with the Bisons in seven consecutive seasons. The southpaw began his Herd career in 2001 and in 61 games since, has gone 23-12 with a 3.42ERA. He currently ranks T5th (RHP Tim Drew) in the Modern Era in wins and T3rd in strikeouts (260- RHP Jeremy Guthrie)
OFFENSIVE PRODUCTION: The Buffalo Bisons are the top scoring team in the International League. Their 210 runs scored are one more than Indianapolis' total. The Herd is also T2nd in the IL in average (.271) and home runs (36), and 4th in steals (43).
STILL SWINGING: Yesterday, Franklin Gutierrez continued his hit streak with a double (1-4) as the outfielder has successfully connected with the ball in the last 18 outings for the Herd. Gutierrez is now hitting .375 (30-80) during the streak. It's the second longest hit streak in the International League this season trailing Columbus' Brandon Watson's active 19-game streak.
POWER BAT: Ryan Mulhern leads the Bisons with eight home runs (T3rd in IL) and 29RBI (3rd in the IL). Mulhern also leads the Herd in doubles (11-T4th in the International League), extra-base hits (20, T4th in IL) and slugging percentage (.597, 2nd in IL). He has reached safely in 11 of last 12 games, with a .390 (16-41) batting average.
RUN PRODUCERS: The Bisons have three batters with 20+ RBI on the season. Ryan Mulhern is third in the International League with 29. Keith Ginter is right behind him with 23RBI on the year. Ben Francisco has driven in 22 himself. Overall, 11 different Buffalo batters have driven in at least 10.
HERE'S TO SMITH: RHP Sean Smith was named the International League Pitcher of the Week today. He won both his starts this past week, going 2-0 with a 0.79ERA. Smith's 1.77ERA is currently the second lowest in the International Leagues, just one hundredth of a point behind Rochester's Kevin Slowey.
