RICHMOND, VA - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees beat the Richmond Braves 3-1 Monday at The Diamond. The Yankees took advantage of four innings of shutout relief pitching to become the first club to beat the Braves three straight times this season.
The Braves took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on a sacrifice fly by T.J. Bohn. The Yankees Shelly Duncan smashed a home run in the fourth to tie the game. Scranton went ahead to stay in the fifth. Alberto Gonzalez tripled and scored on a sac fly by Angel Chavez. The Yankees added a run in the eighth on an RBI double by Andy Phillips. The Braves threatened in the eighth but stranded two runners.
Eric Junge earned the win. Jim Brower notched a save. Kevin Barry took the loss. Gregor Blanco had two hits for the Braves. Kevin Reese had two for the Yankees. The Braves suffered a third straight loss for the first time this season.
The two clubs conclude a four game series Tuesday at 2 PM at The Diamond. Buddy Carlyle will pitch for the Braves against an undetermined starter for the Yankees.
