Today's Game
Tonight, the Bisons host the Pawtucket Red Sox in the first game of a four-game series from Coca-Cola Field (6:05 p.m.). The Herd is coming off a 2-1 series win over the Toledo Mud Hens to begin this seven-game homestand. Buffalo is 7-10 at home this season, but have won four of their last five games at Coca-Cola Field.
Last Game (BUF 7, TOL 5)
C A.J. Jimenez went 4-4 with a two-out, two-run single in both the 1st and 2nd innings of the Bisons' 7-5 win over Toledo. Jimenez then doubled in his next two at-bats to complete the perfect day. OF Junior Lake also reached base four times (3-3, BB, 2RBI) and RHP Ryan Tepera closed out the win with a two-inning save.
vs. Pawtucket (2-4)
This is already the third series between these two IL North division rivals. The clubs split a four-game set in Pawtucket to begin the 2016 season and the PawSox split a two-game series here, April 16-17. Five of the six games have been decided by three runs or less, with the lone exception the Bisons' 9-1 win at McCoy Stadium on April 10.
Chris Leroux
RHP Chris Leroux will make his sixth start of the season today. The righty retired the first 10 batters he faced in picking up his first Bisons' victory last Saturday in Norfolk. Leroux allowed just three hits in five innings in Buffalo's 1-0 win. In his last eight innings on the mound, the veteran has 11 strikeouts to just four hits allowed and no runs.
Devon Travis
INF Devon Travis joins the Bisons on an MLB injury rehab assignment. The second baseman had left shoulder surgery in late October after missing the last two months of 2015. Travis hit in all four games he played in at Dunedin (A) to start his rehab (.357, 5-14). Travis hit .304 with eight homers and 35 RBI with the Blue Jays last season.
Pitching Prowess
The Bisons are 8-4 in their last 12 games, led by some great work on the mound. Since May 7, the staff has posted a 1.54 ERA with 102 strikeouts to only 91 hits allowed in 105.0 innings of work. The bullpen has picked up the save in all eight wins with a 1.31 ERA as a group. Buffalo's 3.15 ERA on the season is 3rd-best in the International League.
Bisons Bits
Bisons relievers have combined to allow just six of 48 inherited runners to score (12.5%)...Yesterday's win was the Bisons first time they scored six or more runs in a victory since an 10-2 win in Rochester on April 23...Buffalo is 12-10 in games decided by two runs or less.
Blue Jays Update
The Blue Jays (19-23) lost to Tampa Bay, 6-3, on Wednesday in their fifth straight defeat. 3B Jimmy Paredes homered in his first at-bat with Toronto, while LF Michael Saunders and DH Edwin Encarnacion also went deep. The Blue Jays start a seven-game roadtrip tonight in Minnesota with RHP Marco Estrada on the mound (8:10 p.m.).
