Buffalo Bisons News Release

Before Wednesday's game in the month of July, the Bisons bullpen had only allowed three runs and did not squander a lead opportunity. On Wednesday, an RBI single in the ninth inning by Rochester capped off a four-run rally and handed Buffalo its first blown relief appearance of the month.

The Herd was defeated by the Red Wings, 6-5, in walk-off fashion in the second leg of a three-game series in Rochester. Buffalo's relief pitching gave up four runs in the final four innings, two in the ninth, which tied the series at one apiece. The loss snapped also Buffalo's three-game winning streak.

Buffalo held a comfortable three-run lead entering the bottom of the sixth inning, but the bullpen gave up had an off night, giving up a run in the sixth and seventh innings, then allowing the winning runs in the bottom of the ninth. In total, Buffalo relievers combined to throw four innings and gave up four earned runs on six hits in the late-inning loss.

The Bisons were clinging to a one-run lead when All-Star Gregory Infante took the mound in the final frame in hopes to close out the game. Instead, he allowed five base runners, culminating with the game-winning RBI single by Danny Ortiz to seal Rochester's victory.

Buffalo entered Wednesday's game one day removed from a record offensive performance of 15 runs and 21 hits. While the Bisons couldn't replicate those offensive statistics throughout the game, they showed that potential in the sixth inning.

The Herd put up all five runs in the sixth inning, with all runs scoring via the double. Buffalo had its first six base runners reach base, scoring five before the first out was registered. The inning was highlighted by Luke Scott's only hit of the night - a two-run double to take a temporary two-run lead.

Todd Redmond gave an admirable performance in his first outing since being designated by the Blue Jays on July 3. He went five innings and gave up two runs on five hits while fanning three in the no-decision.

Buffalo will finish its road trip on Thursday when it completes the three-game series with Rochester. The Bisons will then return home for a weekend series against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre before the All-Star break. Thursday's game will begin at 7:05 p.m.

BISONS NOTES:

The loss moves Buffalo one game under .500 after reaching the mark for the first time since June 6 after Tuesday's victory ... Matt Hague picked up two more hits and increased his batting average to .343 ... Jonathan Diaz failed to pick up a hit, ending his hitting streak at seven games
