Stephenson Earns Second Win against Indians

LOUISVILLE, Ky- The Louisville Bats (43-44) beat the Indianapolis Indians (51-36), 3-2, Wednesday night at Louisville Slugger Field to move within one game of .500.

Reds top prospect, righty Robert Stephenson (W, 2-0, 1.64), made his second start of the season and earned his second win. He went six innings and gave up four hits, zero runs, walked one, and struck out six. He threw 102 pitches, 60 for strikes.

The Bats scored all three in the first three innings. Brennan Boesch had two RBI singles, in the first and third frames, both scoring Hernan Iribarren. Boesch has recorded a hit in 14 of his last 15 games and went 2-for-3 with one walk and two RBI. Kristopher Negron scored on a fielding error in the third to make the score, 3-0.

Righty Chris Volstad (L, 5-4, 3.61) started on the mound for the Indians. He went five innings and gave up six hits, three runs, two earned, and walked three with two strikeouts.

The Indians got on the board in the seventh with a solo homer by John Bowker, his second of the season, and Keon Broxton scored on a Bats error to make it a 3-2 game.

Righty Jumbo Diaz (S, 7) secured the game for the Bats and struck out two in one and one third innings.

Tomorrow the Bats and Indians finish their six-game split series at Louisville Slugger Field at 7:05 pm. Projected on the mound for Louisville is righty Dylan Axelrod (6-5, 4.06) and for Indianapolis righty Adrian Sampson (6-7, 4.15).

A win tomorrow will give Louisville a 4-2 split series win and bring the Bats back to .500 for the first time since beating Lehigh Valley in the first game of a doubleheader on June 28th.
