Toledo Mud Hens News Release

In their fifth game in a row against the Columbus Clippers, the Hens dropped a nail-biter by a final of 6-3. Shane Greene started on the mound for Toledo and was solid in his three innings of work, but a combination of the bullpen and offense weren't enough to overcome the Clips. The Hens had their fair share of scoring chances, but couldn't scratch across enough runs to get the win.

With two outs in the third inning, the Clippers struck first courtesy of a solo home run from Michael Martinez. In the fourth, the Hens evened things up. Wednesday night was a night of firsts for Bryan Holaday. Holaday made his first start of the season at first base, and then was also Toledo's cleanup hitter for the first time all year. Showing that he can live up to the power end of the four-hole, Holaday blasted his second home run of the year in the fourth inning to tie the game 1-1.

The Clippers did a good chunk of their damage in the sixth and seventh innings. In the sixth with Rafael Dolis on the hill for Toledo, Columbus put two on with only one out. Dolis got Jerry Sands to hit a ground ball to Alexi Casilla at short, but a fielding error on the play allowed the Clippers to take a 2-1 lead.

In the seventh, Martinez hit his second triple of the game to start the inning. Brett Hayes followed with a double off of Jose Valdez, and was then knocked in by Jesus Aguilar. The Hens responded in the bottom half of the inning though. With two outs, Wade Gaynor got his first hit since being promoted to Toledo on Saturday, a double off the top of the wall in left field. Trayvon Robinson followed with a single slapped into center field to score Gaynor.

In the eighth inning trailing 4-2, the Mud Hens loaded the bases with two outs for Manny Pina. Pina roped a single to right field that scored Holaday, but Daniel Fields was thrown out trying to score by Lonnie Chisenhall in right field. In the top of the ninth, Columbus got the run back thanks to a sacrifice fly from Aguilar. Jerry Sands also added an RBI single to give the Clippers a 6-3 victory.

Toledo takes on the Clippers for the sixth consecutive game on Thursday. First pitch at Fifth Third Field is scheduled for 7 p.m.
