Buffalo Bisons News Release
The Buffalo Bisons scored in the ninth to take a one-run lead but couldn't hang on as Daniel Palka ended Friday's frenzy at Frontier Field with a two-run home run, giving the Red Wings the 4-2 victory.
A.J. Jimenez gave the Herd a short-lived 2-1 lead in the top of the ninth, driving in Dalton Pompey (pinch running for Chris Colabello) with a single through the right side of the infield.
However, Bo Schultz gave up a walk and a pair of singles in the home half of the frame, allowing the Wings to plate the tying run.
The hard-throwing closer was still on the hill in the 10th and followed up a leadoff single to Wilfredo Tovar with a pair of outs. Schultz was unable to get the third as Palka sent a 1-2 offering over the wall in right for the win.
In his 12th start for the Bisons this year, Casey Lawrence lasted a season-high 7.1 innings. The slender righty worked efficiently, needing just 57 pitches to get through the first five innings. With the game tied 1-1 and two men on in the sixth, Lawrence buckled down with back-to-back strikeouts to get out of the jam.
The 28-year finished with five K's, allowing one run on five hits.
Aaron Loup took over for Lawrence and laid waste to the heart of the Wings' lineup. The cross-firing reliever sat down Rochester's two, three and four batters in order - all on strikeouts.
Melky Mesa wasted no time with his opportunity to bat leadoff. The speedy outfielder took the first pitch of the game to the wall in right-center field for a triple.
Mesa crossed home a couple of batters later for the opening run of the night as Matt Dominguez grounded out to third.
BISONS NOTES: Prior to Friday's festivities, Ryan Goins was recalled to the Blue Jays...Toronto optioned Darrell Ceciliani to the Herd as the corresponding move...Jesus Montero's 2-for-4 night extended his hitting streak to 11 games. Buffalo's designated continues to lead the IL in hits at 140...Now with 17 appearances pitched for the Herd this season, Aaron Loup has still not given up a home run...The Bisons fall to 2-6 in extra-inning games.
