2016 LHV Game Notes 4-3.indd TONIGHT'S GAMES: The second-place IronPigs (74-51) play a doubleheader -- Games 2 and 3 of a five-game, four-day series -- against the sixth-place Syracuse Chiefs (55-69) at NBT Bank Stadium... With a 2-1 loss in 12 innings last night, the Pigs have now dropped 9 of their last 15 contests since setting a franchise high-water mark of 26 games above .500 on Aug. 2 (68-42). The Pigs, who remain 22-12 after the All-Star Break, hold a 5.5-game lead in the Wild Card standings... The Chiefs -- Washington's top affiliate -- have still dumped eight of their last 10 against the Pigs and are just 10-19 since July 20. After reaching a high-water mark of 27-21 through May 29, Syracuse has gone 29-48... The Pigs recently swept the last meeting in a three-game series at Coca-Cola Park, July 26-27... First-Pitch of Game 1 is at 5:05 p.m.
DOUBLE YOUR PLEASURE?: The Pigs will play their 6th* doubleheader this season -- and 1st since sweeping 7/36 vs. SYR -- and have started 7-3 in DH games... They've also had sweeps 4/12 @ ROC & 4/20 @ SYR; and were swept 4/8 @ SYR... All-time, the Pigs are 47-58 (.448) in DH games, with 10 sweeps in 51 tries (swept 12 times)... *Doesn't include a split of a "day-night" split 6/18 vs. BUF, which is not technically a DH.
WALK THIS WAY?: Last night, the Pigs endured just their 5th walk-off loss this season... They were last walk-off upon 8/9 @ SWB -- snapping a span of 88 games without enduring such a loss from 5/8-8/7... Amazingly, 3 of their 5 walk-off losses in '16 have come at PNC Field... It was their 50th walk-off loss all-time.
- The Pigs also fell to 9-6 in extra-innings this season, which is still the 3rd-best record in the IL.
TRICKY NICKEY: Last night, former Washington farmhand RHP Nick Pivetta (N/D, 6.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 9 K) recorded both a season-high and career-high tying 9 K (7/5/15; Advanced-A Potomac) in just the 2nd start of his Triple-A career... The pen blew his 1-0 lead... The 23-year-old is a combined 11-6, 3.27 in 24 GS. SPELLING R-E-L-I-E-F: Despite the loss last night (5.2 IP, 2 ER), the LHV pen owns a 1.88 ERA (86.0/18) over the last 29 G. S-P-E-L-L-E-D BY RELIEF: Last night, the SYR bullpen tossed 5.0 IP scoreless, allowing 1 hit and 0 BB while earning the win...
The Pigs haven't scored a run against an opponents bullpen over the past 19.0 IP, batting just .100 (6-60) over the last 5+ games. OFFENSIVE WOES: The Pigs have scored just 1 in 4 of their last 5 G...and have posted 3+ runs in just 2 of their last 9 G (2.3 R/G; 21 R)... In August, LHV has gone 8-9 while batting and IL-low .207 (111-540) & averaging 3.0 R/G (51)... They've dropped from 2nd to 8th in team batting (.254).
