Montgomery Biscuits News Release

MONTGOMERY - Shawn Riggans hit a game-winning RBI fielder's choice with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Biscuits a 2-1 win over the Jacksonville Suns in the rubber game of this three-game series on Grand Slam School Day #2 Wednesday at Riverwalk Stadium.

The Biscuits and the Suns were tied at 1 apiece going into the bottom of the ninth. Delmon Young hit a leadoff double. After Suns pitcher Jason Olson intentionally walked Chairon Isenia and Elijah Dukes to load the bases, Rico Washington hit a fielder's choice that ousted Young at home. Riggans stepped to the plate and hit a fielder's choice to short to plate Isenia and win the game. Washington's hard break-up slide at second base took out Delwyn Young and prevented the double play to ensure the win.

Montgomery starter Brian Stokes was on his game in his Biscuits debut. Stokes pitched six shutout innings (2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 5 SO). Suns starter Jonathan Broxton also pitched well, going six innings (2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 5 SO).

In addition to his game-winning fielder's choice, Riggans threw out two Suns baserunners attempting to steal and piced one off first base.

Russell Martin drove in the Suns' only run of the game with an RBI single to center in the eighth.

Mike Curry broke the scoreless tie in the fifth with an RBI double to left-center.

Friday, the Biscuits will begin a seven-game road trip with the first game of a three-game series with the Carolina Mudcats. Scott Autrey (1-4, 6.84) will take the hill for the Biscuits.
