Birmingham Barons News Release

BIRMINGHAM, AL- On a night when Diamond Jaxx manager Bobby Dickerson and centerfielder Felix Pie both got ejected, West Tenn still found a way to come-from-behind to defeat the Birmingham Barons 9-5 in front of 2,498 fans at the Hoover Met. The loss coupled with a Montgomery victory over Jacksonville drops the Barons into second place a half game behind the Biscuits.

The game started off rough for the Barons when starter Jim Bullard (2-1) had to leave the game after just 0.2 innings after re-aggravating his back but Ryan Meaux came on in relief and was lights out. Meaux tossed 4.1 innings of scoreless ball giving up just three hits and walking none while striking out four.

Josh Fields got the Barons on the board early with a two-run bomb to left-center field in the bottom of the first and Guillermo Reyes added a RBI single that plated Andy Gonzalez in the second to give Birmingham an early 3-0 lead.

Unfortunately, the lead would not hold up. Dwayne Pollok (0-1) relieved Meaux in the sixth and gave up four runs on three hits and a walk in just 0.1 innings to pick up his first loss. The D-Jaxx added four more runs to pad the lead and hold on for the win.

The final game of the three-game series is tomorrow morning at 11:00 AM with LHP Corwin Malone (0-2, 4.97) taking on RHP Ricky Nolasco (4-0, 0.98).

Game Notes: Dickerson and Pie were ejected by home plate umpire Brandon Bushee for arguing.
