Biloxi Shuckers News Release
BILOXI, MS - A two-run ninth inning helped the Montgomery Biscuits (10-11) walk off the Biloxi Shuckers (12-10) 3-2 on Tuesday night at Riverwalk Stadium.
With the game tied at 1-1 in the top of the ninth, Freddy Zamora doubled with one out and advanced to third on a wild pitch from RHP Carlos Garcia (W, 4-0). Garrett Mitchell stepped up, and with the infield drawn in, the Shuckers' center fielder roped a single up the middle, easily scoring Zamora to put Biloxi up 2-1.
RHP Lucas Erceg (L, 0-2) entered the game for the Shuckers in the ninth. Biscuits' lead-off hitter Cameron Miser hit an opposite-field homer to tie the game, his third home run of the season. Erceg bounced back by striking out Jordan Qsar before Grant Witherspoon singled to center. Another strikeout got the Shuckers to two outs, but back-to-back singles by Blake Hunt and Brett Wisley gave the Biscuits the walk-off victory.
Montgomery got on the board in the bottom of the first inning. Wisley doubled to left, moved to third on a groundout and scored on a groundout to put the Biscuits up 1-0. RHP Tyler Herb allowed just two more hits during the rest of his outing, striking out six over five innings.
Biloxi responded in the top of the second inning when Joey Wiemer launched a solo home run to left, his fourth of the year, to bring the Shuckers even at 1-1. The Shuckers threatened to score again in the seventh when Zamora singled and was replaced at first on a Mitchell fielder's choice. Mitchell stole second and Wiemer walked but the next two hitters were retired to close out the inning.
In a quick turnaround, the Shuckers and Biscuits square off again at 11:05 am on Wednesday morning. RHP Victor Castañeda takes the hill for the Shuckers against Biscuits' RHP Jayden Murray. The game can be seen on MiLB.TV and heard locally on WGCM AM 1240/FM 100.9 or online here.
