
Dean, Gordon Join M-Braves, Pearson, Riley Transferred to Rome

PEARL, MS - The Mississippi Braves have announced the following roster moves before Tuesday's series opener with the Pensacola Blue Wahoos at Trustmark Park. OF Justin Dean has been added to the M-Braves roster from Triple-A Gwinnett, and RHP Tanner Gordon has been added from High-A Rome. Also, OF Jacob Pearson and RHP Trey Riley have been transferred from Mississippi to High-A Rome.
Dean, 25, was batting .204 with two doubles, five RBI, and five stolen bases in 19 games for the Stripers this season. On April 19, the Mauldin, SC native threw out runners at second and third base for two outfield assists (#4-5 total); his second assist was No. 1 on SportsCenter's Top 10 Plays. Dean spent the entire 2021 season with the M-Braves, batting .237 with 14 doubles, four triples, eight home runs, 60 runs, 34 RBI, 29 stolen bases, and .709 OPS in 99 games. In the Double-A South Championship Series, he hit .333 (2 2B, 6 R, 2 RBI, 2 SB) in five games. Dean was the Braves' 17th-round pick in 2018 out of Lenoir-Rhyne University (NC).
Gordon, 24, joins the M-Braves roster from Rome and will make his Double-A debut on Wednesday night against the Blue Wahoos. Gordon was off to a hot start with the Rome Braves, ranking among the South Atlantic League leaders in strikeouts (1st, 36), ERA (4th, 1.64), wins (T-1st, 3), WHIP (3rd, 0.82), and innings pitched (T-4th, 22.0). In addition, Gordon leads the Atlanta Braves organization in WHIP and ranks 2nd in strikeouts. Gordon split the 2021 season between Low-A August and High-A Rome, combining to go 6-8 with a 3.90 ERA with 109 strikeouts to 21 walks in 108.1 innings pitched. The Champaign, IL native was Atlanta's sixth-round selection in 2019 out of Indiana University.
