Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release

Jacksonville, Fla. - Matt Spring hit a solo home run in the tenth inning and sent the Montgomery Biscuits (72-65, 34-35) to a 1-0, 10 inning win over the Jacksonville Suns (80-59, 40-29) in front of 7,548 Sunday night at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.

Biscuits reliever Ryan Reid (3-3) dealt one and two-thirds scoreless innings for the winning decision while Suns reliever Jeff Allison (6-11) allowed the game-winning home run in the tenth inning for the loss. Matthew Gorgen (22) saved the game with a perfect tenth inning.

Each team squandered early scoring chances. The Suns loaded the bases with one out in the fifth inning on a walk and two singles before a pair of strikeouts from Montgomery starter Alex Cobb ended the threat.

In the seventh inning Montgomery's Jose Ruiz singled with one out and moved to second on an error by Matt Dominguez on a slow bouncing ball from Henry Wrigley. John Matulia next doubled off the right field wall, but outfielder Jeff Corsaletti recovered the hit, threw to Ryan Curry who relayed to the plate for the tag by Vinny Rottino on Ruiz for the second out. After an intentional walk loaded the bases, Matt Spring struck out against Garrett Parcell to end the inning.

Suns starter Tom Koehler dealt six scoreless frames with one hit, one walk and six strikeouts without factoring in the decision in his final regular season start. Koehler finished tied for the franchise record for single-season wins with Dave Borkowski (1998).

In the tenth inning with one out, Spring (3) belted a ball over the left field lawn against Allison for the only run in the game.

Suns RH Jose Rosario will face Biscuits LH Davis Newmann in the final game of the regular season Monday at 1:05 p.m. Tickets are available by calling 358-2846 or by visiting jaxsuns.com.
