Mississippi Braves News Release

Pearl, MS - After a 46 minute rain delay, Montgomery and Mississippi played game one of a five-game series and 10-game Braves' homestand Thursday night. Behind the strong pitching of Jeremy Hellickson and a potent offensive attack, the Biscuits dismantled the Braves by a score of 9-2.

Despite both teams threatening, the game remained scoreless until the top of the fourth. Rhyne Hughes blasted his league-leading ninth home run of the year into the Farm Bureau Grill in right field off of Ryne Reynoso. Hughes' homer was just the beginning. Mississippi native JT Hall hit a two-run homer and Drew Anderson ripped an RBI triple to give the Biscuits a 4-0 lead.

The Braves answered back with two runs in the home-half of the inning. Mississippi had runners at second and third with no outs, but back-to-back strikeouts put the scoring threat in question. Phillip Britton's two-out, two-run double got the M-Braves back in the game.

Montgomery went back to work in their next at-bat. Hughes singled and scored on a Rashad Eldridge double to give the Biscuits a 5-2 lead. Two runs in the eighth and two more in the ninth pushed the lead to 9-2.

Ryne Reynoso gave up four runs on nine hits in 4.1 innings. Rudy Darrow gave the Braves 1.2 scoreless innings while Kevin Gunderson and Steve Marek each allowed a run in an inning of work. Rafael Cruz gave up two more runs in the ninth.

Jeremy Hellickson was masterful for the Biscuits as he turned in nine Ks in six strong innings. He gave up two runs on five hits and left the game with a 5-2 lead. Neal Frontz walked one in two solid innings. Ryan Reid threw a shutout ninth to finish out the game.

The Braves will play the Biscuits in game two of this five-game series, and 10-game homestand, Friday night at Trustmark Park at 7:05 ct. Mississippi will go with lefty Johnny Venters (0-1, 1.47) while the Biscuits will send righty Aneury Rodriguez (0-3, 8.04) to the hill.

Smokey the Bear and Myron Noodleman will be in attendance Friday night as the first 2,000 fans will get a free M-Braves flag. The Braves Friday Night Fireworks Extravaganza will follow the final out of the game.
