
Diamond Jaxx Update/Roster Move

Jackson Generals News Release
Birmingham, Ala. (April 30, 2009) - At 7:05 tonight, the Diamond Jaxx (9-10) open a series with the Birmingham Barons (12-6) at Regions Park in Birmingham. On the mound for the Jaxx will be LHP Danny Christensen (0-0, 0.00), making his Diamond Jaxx debut, and Mariners organization debut. On the bump for the Barons is RHP John Ely (2-0, 3.38), making his fourth start of the season.
News and Notes...The Jaxx game that was cancelled on Wednesday will be made up when the Diamond Jaxx visit the Mississippi Braves on May 31. On Sunday, May 31 the Jaxx and Braves will play a doubleheader, with game one beginning at 3:05 p.m. It will be two seven inning games. The Jaxx will be in Mississippi for a series, May 31-June 4.
Due to being in the first half of the season, the game had to be made up in the first half.
Diamond Jaxx outfielder and #1 prospect in the Seattle organization, according to Baseball America is coming off of a homestand in which he hit 10 for 34 (.294) with 6 homeruns and 17 RBI's. Entering the series with the Smokies, on April 20th Halman was hitting .140 with 2 home runs and 6 RBI's. On Tuesday night, Halman hit two home runs, one of which being a grand slam with 6 RBI's. Halman leads the Southern League in homers (8) and RBI's (23). He also ranks second in all of Minor League Baseball in home runs, second only to Iowa's Jake Fox who has 12. He ranks third in Minor League Baseball in RBI's.
Ezequiel Carrera's consecutive on-base streak continues. In all 18 games in which he has played, Carrera has reached base. He is hitting .358 on the season, good enough for third in the Southern League.
Danny Christensen makes the start today for the Diamond Jaxx. Danny spent the 2008 season with Double-A Erie of the Eastern League in the Detroit Tigers organization. He was named to the Eastern League All-Star team in 2008. Christensen started 27 games and tossed 158.2 innings. He finished the year 7-10 with a 4.14 ERA. He was selected originally by the Kansas City Royals, in the 4th round (108th overall) of the 2002 June draft. On November 13, 2007, he was acquired by the Tigers from the Royals as a player to be named later in exchange for Ramon Colon. He was signed by the Mariners last week to a Minor League contract, and activated on April 29th.

RHP Joe Newby has been placed on the Short-A Everett roster
Mariners have signed RHP Steve Bray to a Minor League contract and he has been placed on the Diamond Jaxx roster, active for game on April 30 with Birmingham.
