PENSACOLA, FL - The Montgomery Biscuits defeated the Pensacola Blue Wahoos 2-1 on Friday evening at Blue Wahoos Stadium.
The Montgomery Biscuits (1-0) struck first in the fifth inning when Austin Overn singled on a soft ground ball back to the pitcher, scoring Mac Horvath and giving Montgomery a 1-0 lead over the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (0-1).
Pensacola answered in the bottom of the inning as Brendan Jones singled to center field, bringing home Jay Beshears to even the score at 1-1.
The Biscuits regained the lead in the eighth inning when Cooper Kinney lined a single to right field, scoring Overn to make it 2-1.
Hayden Snelsire (1-0) earned the win for Montgomery with 2.0 scoreless innings in relief, while Derrick Edington recorded the save with a scoreless ninth inning.
Nigel Belgrave (0-1) took the loss for Pensacola after allowing the go-ahead run in the eighth.
Overn led the Biscuits offensively, going 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored, while Ryan Spikes added two hits. Kinney drove in the game-winning run as Montgomery went 2-for-11 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. Pensacola finished 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position, stranding seven.
TJ Nichols started for Montgomery, allowing one run over 5.0 innings while striking out five. Marcus Johnson followed with a scoreless inning before Snelsire and Edington combined to shut the door.

The Biscuits home opener is scheduled for Tuesday, April 7th against the Columbus Clingstones (Atlanta Braves) at DABOS Park.
