Montgomery Biscuits News Release

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - After taking a loss in the series opener on Thursday, the Biscuits (62-36) bounced back, and evened the series against the Jackson Generals (54-41) with a 4-1 win on Friday night at Riverwalk Stadium.

Jhonleider Salinas opened for the Biscuits, and looked sharp again, striking out the first two batters he faced in a 1-2-3 first inning before facing the minimum in the second as well. The 23-year-old Venezuelan has now gone nine scoreless innings during the month of July.

For the second-straight night the Biscuits struck first against Jackson starter Josh Green (0-1), who was making his Double-A debut. After a lead-off single and a stolen base by Vidal Brujan, Taylor Walls walked, and then Josh Lowe rolled an RBI-single up the middle to make it 1-0 Montgomery. Miles Mastrobuoni hit an RBI-groundout a few batters later, and the Biscuits led 2-0 at the end of one.

The Biscuits held that 2-0 lead into the fifth, thanks to three scoreless innings of relief by Paul Campbell (5-2), before Mastrobuoni added to that lead with an RBI-double to left over the head of Jamie Westbrook that scored Walls, who started the bottom of the fifth with a double of his own.

Ryan Grotjohn led off the top of the sixth with a triple off the wall in right for the Generals, and then scored Jackson's first run on Daulton Varsho's RBI-groundout in the next at-bat to make it a 3-1 game midway through six.

But the Biscuits answered back in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI-fielder's choice by Thomas Milone that scored Robbie Tenerowicz from third on a nifty slide after the first baseman led off the inning with a double.

Campbell was excellent in his second relief appearance of the year, going six innings of one-run ball and striking out a season-high five en route to the win. Phoenix Sanders then came on in the ninth, struck out the side, and secured his 12th save.

The Biscuits will try to make it 15 wins out of 18 games on Saturday when Kenny Rosenberg (9-1) faces off against Bo Takahashi (6-4) on Man on the Moon Night featuring a Lunar Patch Giveaway and MAX Fireworks at 6:05 PM CT.

The four-game homestand will conclude with Lil' Crumbs Dress Like a Player and Helmet Giveaway on Sunday, July 21.
