Montgomery Biscuits News Release
MOBILE - The Mobile BayBears (6-6) slammed back-to-back homers in the seventh inning at Hank Aaron Stadium Sunday night, on their way to a 5-4, series-ending victory over the Montgomery Biscuits.
Biscuits starter Wade Davis lasted until the end of the seventh, but Cyle Hankerd and John Hester blasted solo shots against him before his departure, giving Mobile a 5-1 lead. Davis struck out seven and walked just one, suffering the loss.
The Biscuits almost came all the way back in the final two innings, though, against Mobile closer Reid Mahon. With two strikes and two outs in the ninth, John Jaso missed a game-tying home run by 10 feet, but right fielder Chris Rahl made the catch to end the game.
Mobile starter Brooks Brown held the Biscuits scoreless until the seventh, when Erold Andrus and Sergio Perdroza knocked him out of the game with back-to-back walks. Reliever Abe Woody entered at that point and walked Matt Spring to load the bases, but Montogmery managed only one in the inning, scoring on a Josh Asanovich double play.
Montgomery got two more against Mahon in the eighth on singles by Gaby Martinez and Sergio Pedroza. In the ninth, Rhyne Hughes blasted a two-out homer but Jaso followed by narrowly missing the equalizer.
Hester went 3-for-3 for Mobile and figued into the BayBears' two other scoring innings. He doubled in the second and scored on an Orlando Mercado single and he singled in Mobile's two-run fifth and scored on one of two throwing errors by Matt Spring.
The Biscuits have lost three straight, and their 3-9 record is the league's lowest.
Montgomery begins a four-game series at Riverwalk Stadium against the Mississippi Braves Monday night, with Montgomery lefty James Houser against Mississippi righthander Tommy Hanson.
