Pearl, MS - The Southern League released today that M-Braves starter Tommy Hanson was named the Southern League's Pitcher of the Week for the week ending June 29th.

From Marietta, GA - Hanson turned in one of the most dominant performances in modern Southern League history on Wednesday, pitching a nine-inning no-hitter with 14 strikeouts in a 6-0 win against the Birmingham Barons.

It was the first no-hitter in Braves history, which includes the club's 21-year tenure in Greenville, SC.

The 21-year-old Hanson retired 24 of the final 25 batters he faced and set down 20 in a row after a hit batsman to begin the second inning.

It was the second no-hitter in the league this year - both this month - but the first of the nine-inning variety since July 29, 2005, when Carolina's Nic Ungs accomplished the feat against West Tenn.

The 14 strikeouts were a career high for Hanson, who opened 2008 with his previous best of 13 strikeouts in five hitless innings for Class-A Myrtle Beach.

A native of Tulsa, OK, Hanson has gone 3-0 with a 1.44 ERA in five home starts since being promoted to Double A in May.
