Chattanooga Lookouts News Release
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Lookouts got off to an early lead and managed to stave off several rally attempts by the West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx in a 4-3 finish in Monday night action at AT&T Field.
With two outs already on the board in the second inning, Tonys Gutierrez began a three-run rally with a single. Craig Tatum followed with a double to bring home Gutierrez. Sean Henry then nailed a single to right, but Tatum was given the stop sign at third. On the play, Henry got hung up between first and second, which distracted the Diamond Jaxx and allowed Tatum to cross home on a close play at the plate. With Henry now on second, Shaun Cumberland hit a bloop single to left, bringing home Tatum and giving the Lookouts a 3-0 edge.
Chattanooga added another run in the third. Danny Dorn hit a double to begin the inning and advanced to third on a Thomas Collaro ground to second. An Eric Eymann sacrifice fly to right plated Dorn.
West Tennessee finally entered the scoreboard in the fourth in a highly efficient manner: a Michael Wilson solo shot.
The Diamond Jaxx had the making of a pivotal rally in the eighth but managed to only score one run. Mark Kiger walked to begin the frame, and Johan Limonta and Michael Wilson followed with singles; however, Sean Watson struck out the next two batters to help quell the attack. After a walk to Erick Monzon, lefty Pedro Viola entered the game and induced a Matt Mangini ground out.
In the ninth the Lookouts were, once again, given a scare. With one out, Brent Johnson walked and scored after consecutive singles from Mark Kiger and Limonta. Derrik Lutz, however, retired the next two batters to notch his first save of the season.
James Avery improved to 5-5 on the season by throwing five innings of one-run ball. During his outing, he surrendered four hits and four walks, while striking out four.
Travis Chick (2-4) took the loss for the Diamond Jaxx in a seven-inning effort. He yielded six hits and two walks in his five-strikeout performance.
Chattanooga will continue with their four-game homestand against the West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx at 7:15 P.M., tomorrow. Tickets for this game or any other Lookouts home game can be purchased at the Lookouts Box Office at AT&T Field, online at www.lookouts.com, or by calling (423) 267-4849.
