Biscuits Defeat Barons, Take Series

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Biscuits (34-35) will have the opportunity to finish the first half with a .500 record after defeating the Birmingham Barons (29-40) 5-2 Saturday night at Regions Field.

The Biscuits built a 3-0 lead through the first three innings before Trayce Thompson tripled to lead off the fourth. The triple was the first hit allowed by Robert Gomez (2-4) who sat the Barons down in order the first time through the lineup. Thompson scored on a sacrifice fly. Birmingham came within a run with an RBI-single from Josh Richmond in the seventh inning.

The Biscuits grabbed some insurance when Alejandro Segovia drove in two runs with a two-out single in the ninth inning to make it a 5-2 game.

Sam Runion, Andrew Bellatti and Matt Lollis (3) combined to throw a scoreless inning each to hold off the Barons. Lollis earned his third save of the year while Bellatti and Runion each picked up holds. Gomez was the winner after throwing six innings and only allowing two runs.

Taylor Motter drove in the first run of the game with an RBI-single to score Brett in the first inning. Jake Hager drove in two with a double in the third inning.

Brett finished with three hits and three runs scored. Joey Rickard and Motter had two hits each.

The Biscuits will look to finish at .500 in the first-half finale on Sunday afternoon at 3:00. RH Michael Colla will take the ball for the Biscuits while the Barons will have RH Mike Recchia on the hill.
