
Barons Fall to Biscuits in 14-Inning Marathon

Birmingham, AL - The Birmingham Barons dropped a 14-inning marathon to the Montgomery Biscuits by a score of 5-3 in front of 7,557 fans at Regions Field.
The Biscuits took an early 1-0 lead in the second, getting an RBI double from Hector Guevara that scored Jeff Malm from first base against starter Bryan Blough. Two innings later the lead increased to 2-0 on an RBI single by Jake DePew.
The Barons came back to tie the game with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Rangel Ravelo put the Barons on the board with a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning and recently promoted infielder Michael Johnson tied the gamewith an RBI single in the fifth. The hit and RBI were the first at the Double-A level for the former Samford Bulldog.
The game would remain deadlocked into extra innings as Biscuits starter Dylan Floro allowed just two runs on six hits over 9.0 IP.
After eight-straight scoreless innings, the Biscuits broke through with three runs in the 14th, taking a 3-2 lead on a Willie Argo single and a 5-2 lead on a two-run base hit by Jeff Malm. All three runs were scored against reliever Brandon Hardin (0-0, 4.91).
The Barons attempted to mount a rally in the bottom half of the inning, putting the first two runners on and scoring on a sacrifice fly by Kevan Smith, cutting the lead to 5-3. However, Matt Ramsey struck out Jamie Pedroza with the tying runs on base to seal the Biscuits victory.
With the loss, the Barons fell to 29-39 while the Biscuits improved to 33-35 on the season. The Barons will look to rebound Saturday night when they send LHP Scott Snodgress (3-5, 4.54) to the hill against RHP Roberto Gomez (1-4, 6.43). First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM CDT.
