Birthday Blasts Lead Hoppers Past Lexington

GREENSBORO - Greensboro used the long ball and plenty of them in Thursday's 13-2 drubbing of Lexington. Matt Dominguez slugged one in each of the first two innings in celebration of his 19th birthday. His second was the middle of a second-inning back-to-back-to-back home run fest put on for the home fans.
In all the Hoppers pounded out 16 hits and were the beneficiaries of four Lexington errors.
Starter Brett Durand held the Legends in check by allowing only four hits in five innings of work with his only blemish coming in the second inning when he gave up a pair of harmless runs. Durand fanned six before manager Edwin Rodriguez made the call to his bullpen.
Six Hoppers scored multiple runs in the contest and Dominguez led the offensive surge with a 3-for-5 performance which included his two home runs, two runs and four RBIs.
Hunter Mense also garnered three hits in the contest and contributed the back end of Greensboro's back-to-back-to-back home run display.
The sparks were started with a man on and two outs in the second frame when Mike Stanton belted his league-leading 36th home run of the season. Dominguez followed with his second of the night and 16th of the season before Mense hit his 13th.
Aside from Greensboro's four home runs, the Hoppers' only other extra-base hit came off the bat of Ryan Anetsberger who was making his first appearance since coming off the disabled list.
The Hoppers' second-inning home run parade marked the second time this season that Greensboro has had three consecutive home runs in a game.
Greensboro will look to keep its offensive attack driving full speed ahead as the season nears its end. The Hoppers and Legends meet again Friday in game two of their current five-game set to close out the 2008 campaign. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
