Augusta GreenJackets News Release
Augusta, GA - With just two home games remaining on the regular season schedule, the Augusta GreenJackets are approaching the 200,000 mark for fan attendance. The GreenJackets are set to move past 200,000 over the next two days.
"This has been by far the best year for attendance in the 20 year history of professional baseball since returning to Augusta," GreenJackets General Manager Nick Brown said. "We were hoping to finish strong and the fans have come out in force over the last three home games of the regular season."
The GreenJackets broke the franchise attendance mark for a second consecutive year on August 15 and over the past four home games have increased the franchise attendance mark to 191,500.
With two home games left in the regular season, the GreenJackets have their two most popular nights on the schedule remaining. Tonight is the final Thirsty Thursday of the year and then on Friday, August 29 is Fan Appreciation Night with a post game fireworks show.
The GreenJackets final regular season home game on August 29 is sold out of box seats and reserved seating. General admission and standing room tickets only remain. The GreenJackets are looking to set a single game attendance record on August 29, surpassing the mark of 5,566 that was established earlier this season on July 4.
"We have close to 8,500 tickets sold for the remaining two regular season home games," Brown said. "It should be a fun couple of nights with the crowds, the promotions and of course with us on the verge of clinching a playoff spot."
The GreenJackets have a magic number of one to clinch a playoff berth for a third consecutive season. With an Augusta win tonight and or a Columbus loss the GreenJackets would move on to face the Asheville Tourists in the SAL Southern Division Championship Series beginning on September 3 at Lake Olmstead Stadium.
2008 playoff tickets are also on sale with Augusta hosting Game 1 of the Divisional Series on September 3. If the GreenJackets move to the Championship Series Augusta would host Game 1 and Game 2 on September 8 and September 9.
The GreenJackets have posted winning records each of the past three years with the last two years Augusta recording the best winning percentage in Minor League Baseball. The 2008 season finds Augusta again as one of the top teams in the Minor Leagues with a record of 84-49 and a 5.5 game lead in the Southern Division.
The GreenJackets are celebrating their 20th Anniversary this season of baseball returning to Augusta. For information on tickets and all the promotions scheduled for this season call the GreenJackets at 706-922-WINS or visit www.greenjacketsbaseball.com.
