Hickory Crawdads News Release
One night after Madison Bumgarner shut down the Hickory Crawdads, Augusta GreenJackets' pitcher Oliver Odle continued their domination of the Crawdads as Augusta defeated Hickory 5-1 Thursday night at Lake Olmsttead Stadium in Augusta, GA. The win was Augusta's 10th in 13 meetings during the 2008 season including wins in all six games played in Augusta this season.
For the second straight night, Augusta's pitching completely handicapped the Crawdads offense as Hickory has managed only 3 runs on 11 hits in the first two games of the series. Odle equaled his season high of eight innings pitched allowing one run on five hits. His only blemish on the night was a solo home run by Crawdads 1B Tom Hagan in the fourth inning.
After a scoreless first inning, Augusta got on the board in the second. After Crawdads starter Mike Felix retired the first two batters, Andrew Davis lined a single to right, then scored on a triple by Dayton Buller. Buller would score as the next hitter, James Simmons singled to right to put the Green Jackets up 2-0.
With the score 2-1 in the sixth, Augusta add three more runs to put the game away. Felix walked Garrett Baker with one out before retiring the next batter. At this point, relief pitcher Victor Igsema was brought in to face the right-handed hitting Buller. Buller foiled the strategy by hitting a two run homer to left. The GreenJackets added a third run on a single by Simmons and a triple by Shane Jordan to complete the scoring for the night.
Hickory managed only one hit after the 4th inning and had 11 straight batters retired to end the game. The lone bright spots offensively were by Keanon Simon's triple in the third and a 2-4 night by SS Jordy Mercer.
The Crawdads close out the road portion of their schedule in August Friday night before returning home for a season ending three game series against the Greenville Drive on Saturday.
