
Captains Drop Two to Delmarva

(Salisbury, MD) - The Lake County Captains saw their season-high six-game winning streak halted as the Delmarva Shorebirds beat the Captains 7-2 and 4-3 on Thursday.
The game that was suspended in Lake County on August 9th was resumed in the bottom of the fourth inning with the Shorebirds leading 2-0. The Captains cut the lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning when Karexon grounded out but Mark Thompson was able to score from third base. The Shorebirds extended their lead in the seventh inning against Captains reliever Anillins Martinez on RBI's from Wally Crancer, Ryan Adams and a two run double from Anthony Martinez and the Birds led 6-1. The Captains added a run in the bottom of eighth inning when Sanchez doubled home Thompson and the lead was cut to 7-2.
Ryan Morris, who started the game in Lake County, took the loss and his record fell to 9-6. Rob Neigerbauer started the game when it was resumed and got the win and his record went up to 4-0.
In the scheduled game, the Captains scored in the first inning when Matt Brown got a single with two outs off of Shorebirds starter Chris Salberg and Thompson came home to score and it was 1-0. The Shorebirds stormed back against Captains starter Joey Mahalic in the bottom of the inning scoring two runs on a two RBI double by Joe Nowicki and then Nowicki scored on a wild pitch and the Birds led 3-1. The Captains tied it at 3-3 in the second inning on a RBI single from Thompson and a bases loaded walk to Adam Davis. The Shorebirds came right back in the bottom of the second and took a 4-3 lead when Joe Nowicki grounded out with the bases loaded and Pedro Florimon scored from third.
Mahalic suffered the loss and saw his record fall to 7-6 going 4.2 innings allowing four runs on seven hits, walking one and striking out one. Mike Pontius replaced Mahalic with two out in the fifth and threw 1.1 scoreless innings in relief. Joe Esposito got the win in relief to up his record to 2-0.
The Captains wrap up their brief stay in Delmarva on Friday as they send RHP Joanniel Montero (4-6, 5.16) to the mound to face the Shorebirds LHP Zach Britton (11-7, 3.18) with game time at 7:05 PM. All Captains games can be heard on AM 1330 WELW, WELW.COM or CAPTAINSBASEBALL.COM.
The Captains will conclude the regular season with a three-game series in Hagerstown beginning on Saturday.
The Captains will host the second, and if necessary, the third game of the Northern Division Championship series at Classic Park on September 5th and 6th. The series is a best of three games and the Captains will play game one on the road against either West Virginia or Lakewood.

Tickets for the Playoffs remain the same as regular season game tickets, $9 reserved seat, $7 bleachers, juniors, and seniors, $6 lawn. Lawn seats for the Playoffs will only be sold once the reserved seats and bleachers are sold out. The $7 group rate will still apply to groups of 20 or more.
