
Birmingham Drops Sunday Morning Matchup with Mad Ants, 132-127

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Birmingham Squadron, NBA G League affiliate of the New Orleans Pelicans, fell, 132-127, in Sunday morning's showdown with the league-leading Indiana Mad Ants at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
Three Squadron (0-2) players, Malcolm Hill (28), E.J. Liddell (25) and Jalen Crutcher (23) scored over the 20-point mark, while center Trey Jemison registered his sixth double-double of the season and his first in the regular season with 14 points and 11 boards.
Ben Sheppard paced the Mad Ants (3-0) with 27 points on the day and Oscar Tshiebwe recorded his 11th double-double of the year with 21 points and 15 rebounds. Elfrid Payton scored eight but his 13 assists were the most of any player against Birmingham this season.
Birmingham led 107-106 with just over 10 minutes to play, but Indiana went on a 19-6 run to take a 125-113 advantage, its largest of the morning, leading to a Squadron timeout with 3:55 to go. Birmingham cut the lead to four at 127-123 with 1:30 to go but Indiana sealed the game with late free throws.
Birmingham continues its road trip with a game Tuesday at Grand Rapids. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. CT at Van Andel Arena and the game can be seen on My68 or ESPN+.
