Birmingham Barons News Release
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Barons saw a couple of streaks come to an end Sunday afternoon against the Lookouts, but the most important remained intact, unfortunately, as the home team fell 4-3 in front of 4,739 at Regions Field.
The Barons dropped their third consecutive game to the Lookouts despite breaking their scoreless innings streak at 21.3. Birmingham's Joey DeMichele scored on a wild pitch in the third, but a double play grounder by Jairo Rodriguez against reliever Raul Fernandez (4-6, 4.79 ERA) scored Mike Gonzales to break a three-all tie in the seventh to give Chattanooga the victory.
Danny Hayes had two hits, both doubles, and combined with Rob Brantly to knock in runs in the sixth against winner Madison Boer (3-2, 3.32 ERA) to tie the game at 3-3. Tim Anderson singled and stole second in the ninth inning to put the tying run in scoring position for the Barons, but J.T. Chargois got Chris Marrero to fly out to center to end the game and earn his third save.
Frankie Montas, coming off a 7-inning no-hitter in his last start against Tennessee, looked good early. He ran his no-hit streak to 11.2 innings, but his bid for a second straight no-hitter come to a screeching halt when Max Kepler hit a two-run homer to give the Lookout their first safety and the early lead. Montas pitched five innings, allowed three hits and walked three while striking out six in gaining a no-decision.
