
Shuckers Defeat M-Braves, Clinch South Division

PEARL, MS -- Brooks Hall tossed eight innings of two-hit baseball to lead the Biloxi Shuckers to a 9-0 victory over the Mississippi Braves Sunday evening at Trustmark Park. With the win, the Shuckers clinch the Southern League South Division first half title and claim the series. The series finale is slated for 7:00 PM Monday.
Hall (7-3) held the Braves to just two hits and a walk over eight frames. He struck out five and notched the win. Jacob Barnes came on in the ninth to record the final three outs. Nathan Orf and Tyrone Taylor paced the Shuckers with three-hit nights at the plate.
Mississippi (32-30) managed just two hits in the game while Biloxi (39-24) scored nine runs on 15 hits. The M-Braves moved a runner to third in the first and fifth innings but could not score as the Braves and Shuckers went scoreless through the first five frames.
In the top of the sixth, Kyle Wren singled and took second on a wild pitch. Orf then singled to left field, moving Wren to third. Orf took second on the throw home. Orlando Arcia then delivered a two-run single down the right field line, giving Biloxi a 2-0 lead. Michael Reed followed with a RBI-double. He moved to third on a ground out and later scored on a Taylor single, making it a 4-0 game. The Shuckers added one more.
The Shuckers made it an 8-0 game in the seventh. Wren reached on an error and scored on Orf's single to center field. Arcia and Reed followed with back-to-back singles to load the bases. Nick Ramirez reached on an error, allowing Orf to score. Nick Shaw later drew a bases-loaded walk to bring home Arcia.
Biloxi tacked on one more run in the ninth to extend its lead to 9-0.
Jason Hursh (2-5) worked five scoreless innings before giving up five earned runs in the sixth and taking the loss. He allowed 10 hits and struck out five batters. Cole Brocker (three unearned runs) and Ryne Harper (one earned run) worked the final three frames to finish the game.
In Monday's series finale at Trustmark Park, the M-Braves send right-hander Tyrell Jenkins (4-3, 3.00) to the hill against Biloxi righty Hiram Burgos (3-0, 3.68). First pitch is slated for 7:00 PM. Gates open at 6:00 PM.
