Memphis Redbirds News Release
Memphis, Tenn. - The Redbirds had not scored in 21 innings until Timo Perez hit a walk-off two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth to lift the Redbirds over Portland 2-1.
With one out in the bottom of the ninth Kevin Estrada singled before Perez was called on to pinch hit. Perez hit a towering shot to right field off Beavers reliever Brian Sikorski. Memphis had eight hits in the win with Skip Schumaker going 3-for-4. Perez's home run was the only extra base hit. Manny Alexander had two hits and scored the lone Portland run. Memphis native Ben Johnson drove in the only Beavers run.
Matt Perisho picked up the win with two shutout innings and allowed just one hit with two strikeouts. Sikorski took the loss after allowing the home run to Perez. Will Cunnane started for the Redbirds and tossed seven innings. The right-hander allowed one run on five hits in his first game as a Redbird at AutoZone Park. Former Middle Tennessee State standout Dewon Brazelton pitched four shutout innings for the Beavers.
Memphis and Portland will wrap-up the series tomorrow afternoon. The Redbirds will send Dennis Tankersley (1-5) to the mound to try and salvage the series and earn a series split. Right-hander Jack Cassel (2-2) will toe the rubber for the Beavers. Game time is scheduled for 2:10 p.m.
