TODAY'S OPPONENT: The Salt Lake Bees are the Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. They have been a member of the Pacific Coast League since 1994. They were known as the Salt Lake Buzz from 1994-2000 and the Salt Lake Stingers from 2001-05. Last year, they were 79-65 and finished second in the PCL Pacific Conference Northern Division.
TODAY'S GAME: The RedHawks continue their 12-game road trip in Salt Lake . This is their 43rd game this season, 20th road game and fourth game against Salt Lake.
LAST GAME: The RedHawks outscored Salt Lake 13-3 after the second inning to beat the Bees 14-8. Jamie Burke led the RedHawks, going three-for-five with two home runs and five RBIs. Joaquin Arias had his first multi-RBI game of 2006, going two-for-six with a double, home run and four RBIs. Kevin Walker picked up the win for the RedHawks, going 2.1 innings and giving up one run on two hits out of the bullpen.
VS. SALT LAKE: The RedHawks are 26-25 against Salt Lake all-time and 11-16 against them at Franklin Covey Field (6-13 there since 2000). The RedHawks last visited Salt Lake in 2003 when they split a four-game series.
PITCHING MATCHUP: Starting pitcher Edinson Volquez makes his ninth start of the year for the RedHawks. He is Texas' No. 1 prospect according to Baseball America. He was the losing pitcher in the RedHawks 7-2 loss to Fresno May 15, his last start. He went three innings and gave up six runs, four earned, on four hits with seven walks and four strikeouts. In his last three starts, he has issued 18 walks in 12.1 innings. El Reno, Okla., resident Steven Shell starts for Salt Lake . He took the loss in his last start, a 6-0 defeat at Iowa May 15. He went five innings and gave up one run on two hits with three walks and three strikeouts.
MIKE BRUMLEY: RedHawk manager Mike Boulanger has not made the trip to Salt Lake while recovering from eye surgery. Texas minor league field coordinator Mike Brumley will act as manager for the series with the Bees. Brumley managed the Salt Lake Stingers from 2002-04.
RYAN BUDDE: Salt Lake catcher Ryan Budde is the son of RedHawks Director of Facility Operations Harlan Budde. Ryan Budde played baseball at Midwest City (Okla. ) High School and Oklahoma State University .
JASON BOTTS: In his six games as Oklahoma 's designated hitter, Jason Botts is 12-for-27 (.444) at the plate with four home runs and 10 RBIs. The RedHawks are 5-1 with Botts as their DH. In 32 games in the field, Botts is 34-for-115 (.296) at the plate with six home runs and 22 RBIs.
FREDDY GUZMAN: CF Freddy Guzman was traded by San Diego with P Cesar Rojas to Texas for P John Hudgins and 1B Vincent Sinisi May 10. Guzman played in six games against Salt Lake while a member of the Portland Beavers. He is 10-for-31 (.323) with two doubles, a triple, two RBIs and five stolen bases in eight games against Salt Lake this year. He was two-for-five with a double, RBI and two stolen bases April 24 against the Bees.
HOME SWEET HOME: Going back to July 22 of last season, the RedHawks are 33-15 (.688) at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark including 1-1 in last year's playoffs against Nashville. They are 32-14 (.696) at home in regular season games since July 22.
ROAD WOES: The RedHawks are 4-15 (.211) on the road this year. They were 37-35 (.513) on the road last year. The worst road record in team history was 24-47 (.338) in 2000. It was the second worst road record in the PCL that year.
CLOSE GAMES: Thirteen of Oklahoma's 17 wins this season have come by four runs or less, including eight one-run wins. Also, 19 of Oklahoma's 25 losses this season have come by four runs or less. They have six losses by one run, six losses by two runs, four losses by three runs and three losses by four runs.
RADIO UPDATE: The RedHawks' flagship station for most games is KEBC 1340 AM. However, there are a few dates the flagship station will change due to scheduling conflicts. The RedHawks will be on AM 1000 KTOK May 27 and June 3. They will be on KFXY 1640 The Score May 28 and June 4.
DOT-DOT-DOTS: OF Adam Hyzdu had his eighth outfield assist of the season in last night's game. He leads the league in outfield assists ... The RedHawks had their most runs (14), hits (17) and home runs (4) of the season in last night's game.
