Oklahoma City Comets News Release

The Oklahoma RedHawks set season highs in runs, hits and homers in a 14-8 win over the Salt Lake Bees Saturday night at Franklin Covey Field. The RedHawks, 17-25, have won back-to-back road games for the first time this year and can win their second straight series with a win in Sunday's finale at 2 p.m. MDT.

Jamie Burke slugged two home runs and drove in five runs to pace a 17-hit Oklahoma attack. Jason Botts hit his 10th home run of the year and Joaquin Arias added a two-run shot, as Oklahoma overcame an early 5-1 deficit. Arias also had a two-run double.

Lefty Kevin Walker (3-3) picked up the win in relief as Oklahoma used five pitchers. Scheduled starter Derek Lee was unable to pitch because of a sore back, so Jose Diaz started and lasted two innings, allowing five runs on five hits. Kelvin Jimenez, Walker, Bryan Corey and Erasmo Ramirez followed in a game closer than the final score indicated.

The RedHawks came back from a 5-1 deficit to tie the score 5-5 in the fourth, but Salt Lake regained the lead 6-5 with the run in the fourth off Jimenez. Oklahoma tied it again with a leadoff homer by Burke in the sixth off starter and losing pitcher Kasey Olenberger (3-1), the current PCL Pitcher of the Week. Olenberger allowed eight runs on nine hits in 5 2/3 innings, including a two-run shot by Arias in the sixth that put Oklahoma up 8-6.

The RedHawks led 9-8 heading into the ninth and scored five runs off reliever Matt Wilhite, capped by a three-run homer by Burke.

Right-hander Edinson Volquez will pitch for Oklahoma Sunday against right-hander Steven Shell.
