
Sidewinders win in Round Rock, earn series split

Round Rock - The Sidewinders led 5-0 after three innings and cruised to a 7-2 win over the Round Rock Express on Sunday afternoon at the Dell Diamond. Tucson moved back to two games over .500 at 23-21 on the season.
Chris Young led a 15 hit attack with 3 hits in 5 trips and three RBI. Alberto Callaspo, Stephen Drew and Scott Hairston each had two hits as the top four hitters in Tucson's order combined for nine hits in the game. Callspo extended his hitting streak to ten while Drew has now hit in nine straight and 27 of his last 31 games.
Carlos Quentin went 1-4 and extended his hitting streak to six.
Russ Ortiz, making his second rehab start with the Sidewinders, worked four innings, allowing six hits and two runs. Terry Mulholland earned the win in his first rehab appearance pitching three innings of scoreless baseball. Mulholland allowed two hits and struck out one.
Jared Gothreaux took the loss. Gothreaux (1-2) allowed five runs on eight hits in just four innings of work.
Tucson jumped on top with a three runs in the top of the first inning. Callaspo led off with a base hit and Young made it 2-0 with his third home run of the year to left. The Sidewinders then loaded the bases with back to back singles from Hairston and Quentin and a walk to Brian Barden. Matt Erickson's sacrifice fly to left scored Hairston and made it 3-0.
Hairston's two run homer to left made it 5-0 in the bottom of the third. Hairston leads the Sidewinders with 10 home runs and 29 RBI. His 10 long balls are second in the PCL.
Round Rock picked up two runs in the bottom of the fourth on four singles. Wade Robinson and Chris Sampson had the RBI base hits.
Kenny Perez hit a two out home run to left in a pinch hitting appearance in the ninth to cap the scoring.
The Sidewinders will travel to Albuquerque on Monday to open a four game series with the Isotopes at Isotopes Park. Right hander Dustin Nippert (5-0 3.51) will start for Tucson against lefty Adam Bostick (0-0 0.00) for Albuquerque. First pitch is at 6:05 Tucson time. The game will air live on COOL 1450 beginning at 6:00.
