Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
SALISBURY, MD - Branden Becker hit a pinch-hit RBI single in the 10th inning to give Delmarva a come-from-behind 5-4 win over the BlueClaws on Saturday night at Perdue Stadium.
Becker's pinch hit single came off Luis Ramirez (0-2), who took the loss for the BlueClaws. Ramirez and Lakewood nearly had pulled to within one out of a win, but a balk was called on the BlueClaws right-hander, negating the second out of the inning. Given fresh life, Seamus Curran tied the game with a base hit to right center. After two BlueClaws errors loaded the bases, Becker's RBI single won the game.
Lakewood (8-8) falls back to .500 after winning the first two games of the series with Delmarva (12-4). The BlueClaws are now 2-2 in extra innings this year and have seen nine of their first 16 games decided by one run (4-5).
Utilizing the new experimental extra inning rules, the BlueClaws started the 10th inning with Yahir Gurrola on second base and he scored on a wild pitch to put Lakewood up 4-3 before the Shorebirds rallied for the win.
Scott Burke (1-0) allowed the inherited runner to score but was credited with the win.
Quincy Nieporte's RBI double in the first inning gave the BlueClaws a 1-0 lead and gave Nieporte a first inning RBI double for the second straight day.
The Shorebirds, however, answered with three runs in the second inning. A two-run single by Frank Crinella put Delmarva up 2-1 and Kirvin Mosequit followed with an RBI single for a 3-1 lead.
Lakewood starter Damon Jones got out of a jam in the third, but exited after allowing three runs in three innings.
The BlueClaws would tie the game in the fourth inning on a two-run single from Gregori Rivero. Lakewood got three scoreless innings from reliever Julian Garcia and two from Kyle Dohy to send the game into the ninth still tied.
Rivero had two hits and two RBIs in the loss for Lakewood.
BlueClaws pitchers struck out 17 Shorebirds in the loss including six each by Damon Jones and Julian Garcia.
The teams finish their series at 2:05 pm on Sunday afternoon. RHP Connor Brogdon (0-1) starts for Lakewood opposite LHP Zac Lowther (2-0).
