Greenville Drive News Release
Kannapolis, NC - The Greenville Drive couldn't get anything going on Saturday night, as they were shut out for the second time this season in a 7-0 loss to the Kannapolis Intimidators.
Kannapolis (10-6) starter Kade McClure (2-0) fired seven strong innings to get the win. The right-hander scattered six hits and struck out nine Drive (3-13) hitters.
The runs came early and often for the Intimidators on Saturday, as they tagged Alex Scherff (0-3) for five runs over the first two innings. Justin Yurchak's RBI single in the first got the scoring going, and a four-run second was highlighted by a two-run triple from Carlos Perez. The frame also included an RBI groundout by Johan Cruz and another RBI hit from Yurchak.
Tyler Frost rudely greeted new Drive pitcher Denyi Reyes in the fourth by smacking his first pitch of the night over the wall in right for a solo homer, which extended the lead to 6-0.
Another solo homer in the seventh, this one by Luis Gonzalez, capped the Kannapolis scoring.
The Drive offense received multi-hit nights from Victor Acosta and Pedro Castellanos, while Michael Osinski extended his on-base streak to 14 games.
The series finale is at 3:35 PM on Sunday in Kannapolis. Left-hander Jhonathan Diaz (1-1, 3.78) takes the mound for the Drive as they look to snap their eight-game losing streak, and right-hander Lincoln Henzman (0-2, 3.86) starts for the Intimidators.
