Comeback Kids Make Statement in Rome

Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Rome, GA: The Augusta GreenJackets, South Atlantic League affiliate of San Francisco Giants, had a ninth inning comeback that will be remembered.

The GreenJackets got off to an early lead again in Rome, when they quickly put up two runs in the top of the second inning. This was answered by the Braves in the bottom of the fifth, when they added two of their own.

In the seventh, the Braves scored two more runs to put their lead to 4-2. This was bringing back memories of last night's game when the GreenJackets let the seventh inning get away from them in an eventual loss. Then the top of the ninth started.

Ryan Kirby started the ninth with a walk, the third time he was walked in the game. This was followed by a Jacob Gonzalez single. After a passed ball, with Kirby on third and Gonzalez on second, Manuel Geraldo stepped up to the plate.

He was already having a solid night at the plate, going 2-3 in the ballgame. Then he turned on a fastball and put it past third base into the corner of left field. This tied the ballgame and put Geraldo on at second.

Next up was John Riley for the GreenJackets. He took a pitch and put it up the middle for a single to center field. This scored Geraldo from first and gave the GreenJackets a 5-4 lead.

Frank Rubio would come on for an intense save in the ninth when the Braves put two runners on base. In the end he would get the strike out to clinch the game for the GreenJackets.

The GreenJackets will be back in action tomorrow at 2 pm as they go for the series win in Rome.
