Birds Lose in Extras

Aberdeen's righty Pat Kantakevich and Batavia's lefty Daniel Calhoun dueled through six innings until Calhoun was pulled from the game in the sixth. Calhoun's replacement, Tyler Leach, got into trouble allowing two ‘Birds to reach base but the ‘Birds were unable to take advantage of the pitching change and the game remained scoreless.

The seventh inning brought some change to the game as Kevin Landry came into the game for Kantakevich and struck out the side for the ‘Birds; however the game remained scoreless through seven.

In the bottom of the eighth, Baxter hit the ball to deep left field but was thrown out at third trying to breathe some life into the ‘Birds offense. Although the ‘Birds didn't score, Baxter collect his fourth hit of the game and becoming the fifth IronBird to accomplish the feat this season.

The game trekked into extra innings and in the thirteenth inning, Batavia scored the first run of the game and tallied three runs total in the inning to take a 3-0 lead.

The ‘Birds were unable to score in the bottom of the thirteenth and fell 3-0.

The ‘Birds had two players extend their hitting streaks. T.J. Baxter extended his hitting streak to six games, while Garabez Rosa extended his to four games.

Baxter led the ‘Birds offensively going 4-5, the four hits by way of three singles and a double.

Kantakevich had a no-hit bid going into the fifth but the attempt was spoiled by Jon Edwards who hit a double with one out. The righty went 6.0 innings, allowed no runs but two hits, along with six strikeouts and two walks. Kantakevich did not earn a decision in the contest but lowered his ERA to 3.65 on the season.

Landry provided solid relief for Kantakevich, going 3.0 innings, allowed no runs and no hits, while striking out seven and walking two.

Batavia's Daniel Calhoun went 5.0 innings, allowed no runs but three hits with three strikeouts and a walk. Calhoun did not receive a decision in the contest.

Tomorrow the ‘Birds will close out their 3-game series versus Batavia on Rock n' Roll night at Ripken Stadium; the game is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
