Aberdeen IronBirds News Release

Aberdeen, MD - The Brooklyn Cyclones scored one run in the top of the second inning and kept the IronBirds scoreless, as Aberdeen was shutout for the first time this season and fell 1-0 to the rival Cyclones.

Brooklyn's Richard Lucas led off the top of the second inning with a double and two batters later scored what would be the only run of the ballgame when Charley Thurber hit an RBI double to give the Cyclones a 1-0 lead.

Aberdeen would have their chances, however. After getting no-hit through 4.1 innings, the IronBirds had runners on second and third, but Riley Hornback and Cody Young both struck out swinging to end the threat.

In the sixth, Dudley Leonora led off with a single and advanced to third, but again, two IronBirds - Austin Knight and Joe Velleggia - both struck out to wipe out the scoring chance and end the inning.

In the seventh, Connor Narron led off with a single and advanced to third, but Cody Young struck out looking to end the inning and keep Brooklyn's lead intact.

The IronBirds threatened in the ninth, but Riley Hornback struck out swinging with runners on first and second to end the ballgame.

Jacob Cowan took the loss for the IronBirds. He went six innings, allowed the one (earned) run, walked two Cyclones and struck out five. Carlos Vazquez got the win for the Cyclones, pitching five innings, and only giving up two hits and striking out two IronBird hitters. TJ Chism worked the final out of the ballgame and earned his third save.

Aberdeen travels to Staten Island tomorrow to open up a three game set against the division-leading Yankees. David Baker (0-0, 3.00) will get the start for Aberdeen, while William Oliver (0-0, 5.63) will go for the Yankees. First pitch from Richmond County Stadium is set for 7:00 p.m.

The Aberdeen IronBirds sold out season tickets for the 10thstraight season. Group packages and single-game tickets, however, are still available for the 2011 season. For ticket information, contact our box office at (410) 297-9292 or visit us online at www.IronBirdsbaseball.com.
