Mahoning Valley Scrappers News Release
Niles, Ohio - Jake Lowery drove in the go-ahead run in the bottom of the seventh inning to help Mahoning Valley sweep State College, 6-4, at Eastwood Field. The Scrappers have won five straight games and are 9-3 this season.
The Scrappers scored the first four runs of the ballgame to take a 4-0 lead, but State College scored two in the top of the fifth inning and two in the sixth to tie the game at 4-4.
Mahoning Valley had runners in scoring position to start to the fifth and sixth, but couldn't capitalize on the chances. In the seventh, Tony Wolters reached on an error with one out and came around to score on Lowery's double.
The Scrappers added another run in the seventh on Alex Lavisky's single. Lavisky went 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
Cody Allen picked up the win in relief, tossing two innings of two-run ball. He is 2-0 this season. Ensosil Tejada picked up his first save of the season.
The series moves to State College, Pennsylvania, for three games. All three games are at 7:05 pm.
