Jamestown Jammers News Release

BATAVIA, N.Y. - The Jamestown Jammers utilized an excellent pitching performance capitalized on Batavia mistakes en route to five unearned runs in a win, 5-1, at Dwyer Stadium Tuesday night.

The Muckdogs committed only two errors, but they proved to be extremely costly as the Batavia offense could not mount anything against the Jamestown pitching staff.

Jose Urena picked up his first win of the season after hurling five shutout innings. He allowed just two hits and two walks while striking out two.

A series of Batavia miscues allowed the Jammers to jump out to a four-run advantage in the second inning and provide all the offense Urena would need.

Austin Barnes started the inning by reaching on an error then moved to second on a passed ball. Ryan McIntyre and Pedro Mendoza followed with back-to-back singles to get the Jammers on the board. Marquise Cooper lined into a double play, but Brent Keys had a bunt single and Alfredo Lopez walked to load the bases.

All three runners on base would score without a base hit on two wild pitches and a passed ball to give Jamestown a 4-0 lead.

Urena would silence the Batavia bats, and the Muckdogs best opportunity to score came in the fifth with two on and two out, but the 6-3 righty induced a pop up to escape without any damage.

Batavia would threaten again in the sixth and seventh, but neither team would score until Jamestown tacked on a fifth run in the top of the eighth thanks to more Muckdog mistakes.

Jobduan Morales walked to start the inning and moved to third on a failed force attempt at second base. McIntyre then delivered a sacrifice fly to plate Jamestown's fifth unearned run of the night.

Batavia would get a meaningless run in the ninth inning to account for their only run.

Brent Keys led the Jamestown offense with three singles, a stolen base and a run scored.

Patrick Daugherty would take the loss for Batavia. He was the victim of four unearned runs in two innings of work. Virgil Hill and Roberto Reyes both had doubles to pace the Muckdog offense.

The two teams will now head to Jamestown for another three-game set starting tonight at 7:05 p.m.
