BROOKLYN, NY - Behind strong starting pitching and early offense, the Aberdeen IronBirds opened up the six-game series with a 8-1 win Tuesday night against the Brooklyn Cyclones, the High-A affiliate of the New York Mets, at Maimonides Park.

BIG MOMENTS

Orioles No. 26 prospect Drew Rom tossed a gem, striking out five over five innings of one-run ball in the victory for Aberdeen.

Ahead 1-0, the IronBirds struck for four more runs in the second inning against Brooklyn starter Oscar Rojas. Zach Watson's three-run home run highlighted the frame. Watson added a sac fly in the third, pushing the lead to 6-0.

Anthony Walters doubled and scored on Antoine Duplantis' run-scoring groundout in the fifth to cut Brooklyn's deficit to 6-1.

NEWS AND NOTES

Francisco Alvarez, the Mets No. 1 prospect according to both MLB Pipeline and _Baseball America_, made his Brooklyn debut on Tuesday.

With the victory, Aberdeen maintains its first place lead in the North Division of the High-A East.

Brooklyn starter Oscar Rojas allowed his fifth home run on Tuesday and has allowed five over four starts.
