Brooklyn Cyclones News Release
BROOKLYN, NY - The Aberdeen IronBirds downed the Brooklyn Cyclones by the score of 7-2 on Sunday afternoon to close out the six-game series on Coney Island. Junior Santos (3-9) was tagged with the loss after he allowed two runs on five hits over 5.0 innings while walking three and striking out five.
Aberdeen wasted little time getting their offense started on Sunday afternoon as Collin Burns singled on the first pitch of the game and three pitches later Darell Hernaiz laced a double into centerfield to score Burns with the game's first run.
The IronBird lead would grow in the fifth when TT Bowens connected on his fifth home run of the season, a solo shot, to make it 2-0. But it was another big-fly, three-run homer from Billy Cook in the top of the seventh - after an RBI single from John Rhodes - that blew the game open and pushed the Aberdeen lead to 6-0.
Brooklyn was able to slice into the lead a bit with a sac fly from Matt O'Neill in the bottom of the seventh to spoil the shutout and make the score 6-1.
The Cyclones and IronBirds traded runs in the ninth, with Brooklyn's tally coming on an RBI double from JT Schwartz, to make the final score 7-2.
After a league-wide off day on Monday the Cyclones will return to action on Tuesday to open a six-game series against the Greensboro Grasshoppers for the second half of their marathon 12-game homestand.
