
Binelas Homer Not Enough in 5-3 Loss to New Hampshire

Manchester, New Hampshire - Alex Binelas launched a three-run home run, accounting for all the Portland Sea Dogs (14-6, 44-45) offense, but it wasn't enough, falling to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (39-50, 8-12) by a score of 5-3 on Saturday at Delta Dental Stadium.
The Sea Dogs started the scoring with a bang, plating three runs in the top of the second against Fisher Cats starter Adam Kloffenstein. Hudson Potts led off with a double and Stephen Scott followed with a single. Binelas stepped up to the plate and blasted a three-run homer, giving Portland a 3-0 lead.
New Hampshire fought back with a run in the bottom of the second against Portland starter Yusniel Padron-Artiles. Orelvis Martinez hit a leadoff single and Tyler Keenan walked, putting runners at first and second. Davis Schneider doubled to left, scoring Martinez, cutting into the Sea Dogs lead 3-1.
The Fisher Cats added another run in the bottom of the fourth with Padron-Artiles still on the mound. With one out in the inning, Martinez crushed a solo home run to left. It was his 20th homer of the year and brought the Fisher Cats within one run, 3-2.
The tying run came around to score for New Hampshire in the bottom of the seventh inning against Portland reliever Dylan Spacke. With one out, Ryan Gold hit a home run to right-center. It was his fifth of the season and tied the game 3-3.
New Hampshire took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the eighth with Portland reliever Oddanier Mosqueda on the mound. With one out, Addison Barger hit a line drive home run to right. It was his second homer of the series and put the Fisher Cats on top 4-3. New Hampshire added another run on a balk from Portland reliever Rio Gomez, expanding their lead 5-3. The Sea Dogs went down in order in the top of the ninth, falling short of the Fisher Cats 5-3.
Andrew Bash (5-3, 4.61 ERA) picked up the win, tossing 4.0 scoreless innings in relief, striking out two in the process. Mosqueda (4-2, 3.96 ERA) was given the loss, going 0.1 innings while allowing two runs on two hits with one walk.
The Sea Dogs and Fisher Cats play the finale of a three-game series Sunday with a 1:35 PM pitch at Delta Dental Stadium. Portland sends RHP Brian Van Belle (4-2, 3.82 ERA) to the mound against a starter to be announced for New Hampshire.
