Altoona Curve News Release
HARRISBURG, Pa. - Curve pitching held Harrisburg to two runs on just six hits, but the Senators came away with a 2-1 win over Altoona on Saturday night at FNB Field.
Kyle Nicolas was charged with a tough-luck defeat after firing five innings of two-run ball. The 23-year-old right-hander allowed just four hits, one walk and struck out three in the defeat. Nick Dombkowski set down all six batters he faced across two innings of relief before Tahnaj Thomas fired another scoreless inning to finish the game off on the mound.
Altoona drew the game even at one in the fourth inning on an RBI groundout from Fabricio Macias; but struggled to bring home a run late in the game leaving six men on base over their final four at-bats. The Curve went 0-for-7 at the plate with runners in scoring position on Saturday night, the biggest blow came in the eighth inning when the Curve managed to load the bases after back-to-back singles from Dylan Shockley and Jared Triolo and an intentional walk to Aaron Shackelford with two outs. However, Macias went down on strikes to end the threat.
Harrisburg right-hander Luis Reyes went a season-long 6.2 innings pitched in the win, picking up seven of the 11 strikeouts for the Senators on the mound.
Andres Alvarez added to his team-best 19-game on-base streak with a walk in the defeat. Liover Peguero also extended his on-base streak to 13 games with a single in the second inning.
The Curve continue look to salvage the final game of their three-game series with Harrisburg on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. RHP Quinn Priester takes the ball for Altoona, the Senators will start RHP Jake Irvin.
