Capital City Go-Go News Release

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Capital City Go-Go (8-9) were defeated by the Long Island Nets (14-6), 131-117, Saturday night at the Entertainment and Sports Arena.

The Go-Go led much of the first half, stretching their lead to as many as nine points behind Wizards' two-way player Devin Robinson's 23 first half points. Capital City carried a 60-59 lead into halftime, but was overwhelmed by an 18-2 Nets' run early in the third quarter that led to a 42-22 quarter advantage. Long Island forced Capital City into 12 turnovers, leading to 17 points in the quarter, and were paced by Brooklyn two-way player Alan Williams' 16 points on 8-of-10 shooting in the quarter. Williams finished the game with a career-high 37 points.

The Go-Go were led by Robinson's career-high 33 points on 12-of-15 shooting. Chris Chiozza added a career-high 20 points to go along with seven assists and four steals. Pe'Shon Howard (16 points), Jordan McRae (13 points) and Tiwian Kendley (13 points) all also scored in double figures in the game.

Seven of Long Island's eight players in the game scored in double figures, including all five starters, led by Williams' 37 and 16 rebounds. Thomas Wimbush also recorded a double-double with 23 points and 13 rebounds. Tahjere McCall added 22 points, while Shannon Scott (15 points), Mitchell Creek (12 points), Kamari Murphy (12 points) and Nuni Omot (10 points) all aided a Net's offense that notched season highs in points (131) and field goal percentage (53.0 percent).

The Go-Go will have four days off before returning to action in Portland, Maine against the Red Claws on Thursday, January 3. Long Island will head home to kick off the New Year against the Erie Bayhawks on Wednesday, January 2.

GO-GO HEAD COACH JARELL CHRISTIAN

On the third quarter:

"I thought we missed some easy shots, we missed some layups. Defensively, we just got a little loose. They obviously outscored us by about 20 in that third quarter. I thought a lot of it was self-inflicted wounds. We turned the ball over. Some ill-advised turnovers led to their fast breaks, led to easy opportunities, some missed communications on our part defensively and some pick-and-roll coverages. Those are all things that are correctable and we can control moving forward."

On the fourth quarter:

"The fourth quarter was just kinda our backs are against the wall, just try to fight and see what happens. Try to make a quick run and try to put a little bit of pressure on them to make shots and perform well. I was pleased with the way our guys fought despite the third quarter. We outscored them three out of four quarters. That's something to be proud of. Definitely, offensively we got a little stagnant. We kinda got one-on-one at times, but I can't fault our players for fighting back at that point."

On the takeaways from the previous road trip:

"The main takeaways from our previous road trip was, when we play well, we play together, we are getting out, we are playing with pace. We are moving the basketball. When we are playing that way and defending at a high level like I thought we did on that road trip, we can play with the best teams, we can beat the best teams. On the flip side of that, when we don't play with the pass, when we play selfish and we don't defend as a team and as a unit, we can lose to anybody."
