Big Seventh Inning Powers Florence Past Grizzlies

SAUGET, IL - Through the first half of the game between Gateway and Florence, it was an evenly played pitcher's duel, tied at three runs apiece after six innings. What happened after that turned the game into a blowout. The Y'alls hit back-to-back home runs in the seventh inning and scored seven runs overall to propel Florence to an 11-3 victory at GCS Credit Union Ballpark Wednesday afternoon.
Taylor Sugg retired the first five batters he faced coming out of Gateway's bullpen before issuing a two-out walk to Andres Sthormes. Ian Bibiloni capitalized with a two-run home run (his second of the series), and Ray Zuberer III followed suit with a solo home run to give the Y'alls a 6-3 lead. Sugg proceeded to walk the next three batters and was pulled with the bases loaded. Brennan Price knocked a RBI single and Joe Lytle brought everyone home with a three-run double off the wall in left field to cap the seven-run inning barrage.
Six of the seven runs in the inning were charged to Sugg, who takes the loss for Gateway. The Grizzlies (13-16) have now lost five games in a row, while the Y'alls (11-17) have won four games in a row. Alex Wager gets the win for Florence thanks to his three innings of relief work with just one run allowed and three strikeouts.
Gateway scored first in the game thanks to an Isaac Benard two-run home run in the first inning. The former Florence player hit a sacrifice fly RBI in the fifth, so Benard accounted for all the Gateway scoring today. Florence scored its earlier runs on a balk, a Sthormes RBI single and a Zuberer sacrifice fly RBI. Zuberer would add another home run in the eighth inning for a two-homer, three-RBI day.
Jake McMahill earns a no-decision in his professional debut for the Y'alls, walking four and allowing two runs in four innings. Darwin Ramos also made his season debut with a scoreless ninth inning. Sam Gardner went five innings and struck out six for the Grizzlies. Andrew Penner was the lone Grizzlie with two-plus hits in the game.
This was a scheduled 10:45 AM CDT first pitch today, so the two team's will have an extended break before tomorrow night's 6:45 PM CDT start time. Yasel Santana - the reigning Frontier League Pitcher of the Week - will try to guide the Y'alls to their first sweep of the season; he'll be opposed by Carson LaRue for Gateway.
