Lake Erie Crushers News Release
Crestwood, Ill. - The Lake Erie Crushers (12-17) coming off consecutive wins looked to bring the win streak to three games on Wednesday night. The Windy City Thunderbolts (14-14) had other plans in mind.
In a game where the Crushers had an early lead, the Thunderbolts went on to score five unanswered runs to eventually win the game, 9-3.
The Crushers scored two runs in the first three innings. In the first inning, a two-out solo home run from Kenen Irizarry to left-center put the Crushers first on the board, 1-0. In the third inning, Austin White scored on a fielding error by the third baseman, 2-0.
Windy City went on to score five runs in the next two innings. A two RBI single by Daryl Myers and sac-fly from Jake Boone in the third inning gave Windy City their first lead, 3-2. In the fourth inning, two solo home runs from Brian Fuentes and Byrnn Martinez added on to the Thunderbolts lead, 5-2.
Jack Harris for the Crushers belted a solo home run to left field in the fifth inning. It was Harris's fifth home run of the season and 16th RBI, 5-3.
That would be all the scoring from the Crushers in the game as the Thunderbolts scored four more runs. An RBI double play from Manny Garcia and three run home run off the bat off Jairus Ricahrds. Windy City closed the door in the ninth resulting in a 9-3 win setting up a rubber match in the series finale.
Matt Mulhearn made his Crusher debut on the mound after being traded last week. He threw four innings, struck out six, and only walked one batter.
The Crushers next game is Thursday, June 16 against Windy City. First pitch is scheduled for 8:05 PM. The probable pitchers for Lake Erie is Joseph Sgambelluri and for Windy City, Miguel Ausua.
