Big Second Inning Propels Otters Over Crushers

EVANSVILLE, IN. - The Lake Erie Crushers, presented by Mercy, trailed early against the Evansville Otters and couldn't recover in a 7-2 loss on Wednesday night.

Evansville got to Crushers starter Sean Renzi (6-4) in the second inning. The Otters would send nine men to the plate and score four runs on three hits. Renzi also walked two batters in the inning. All four runs scored with two outs in the inning. The big hits came from David Cronin and Ryan Long.

Evansville added to their lead in the fourth and in the fifth when they scored a run against Renzi. The Crushers right-hander was charged with six runs on six hits over 4.2 innings. He also issued a season-high five walks. Evansville got an unearned run in the sixth inning as well.

Evansville starter Spencer Medick (2-0) went 6.2 innings while allowing just two runs on three hits. He struck out seven and didn't run into trouble until the seventh inning. Medick surrendered a run on a wild pitch and then allowed an RBI single to Dalton Wheat.

The Crushers loaded the bases in the eighth inning but were unable to score and Evansville closed it out in the ninth. Lake Erie managed just three hits in the loss.

Louis Cohen provided a season-high 3.1 innings of relief for Lake Erie . He allowed an unearned run and struck out five. Bryan DeLaRosa saw his 10 game hitting streak come to an end in the loss.

Lake Erie (30-26) will try to earn a split of the series tomorrow when they send Alex Romero (5-4) to the mound. He will face Tyler Vail (2-2) at 6:35 CDT. Evansville improved to 28-27 with the win. The Crushers return home Friday to begin a three game series with Southern Illinois.
